"[My MC] ended up being nicer at the end than I expected. I wanted her just to be like, 'Screw everyone.'"
Thriller author Kellye Garrett on ripping up the blow-by-blow outline, capturing the racial undertones of criminal investigation, and her bone-chilling new novel, MISSING WHITE WOMAN

Me: Hey, Kellye!
Kellye: Hi Andi!
Congrats on your upcoming book release!!! How are you feeling?
Thanks! I'm a mix of excited and nervous. Sometimes more excited. Sometimes more nervous. Varies day to day. Today I'm more excited though.
YES love that energy for today
Let's start with the question you're hopefully not sick of answering yet! Can you share a little about MISSING WHITE WOMAN?
(Incredible title, BTW)
I usually am horrible about my "pitch' for my books but this one I actually have down. Missing White Woman is about a Black woman (!!) who comes to Jersey City for what's supposed to be a romantic getaway in a four story AirBnB. She wakes up one day to find her boyfriend gone and the missing blonde woman who's gone viral dead in the foyer. She has no clue how she got there, but knows she needs to figure it out because the entire Internet is gonna blame her boyfriend -- or her.
And thanks. I honestly didn't think the title would make it through the initial pitch to my editor. But they loved it
Man, that's a hell of a pitch. Where'd the idea come from?
