A FIRST peek at my latest fiction!
Plus: Celebrate books about frenemies in Brooklyn, write with me upstate, preorder my new short story, and more
Happy Monday!
New York City friends: Tonight, 2/26, I’ll be on an all-star panel with New York Times bestsellers Kimberly McCreight (RECONSTRUCTING AMELIA) and Zakiya Dalila Harris (The OTHER BLACK GIRL) to celebrate the launch of Leah Konen’s excellent new thriller, KEEP YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE! We’ll be chatting all things frenemy at Greenlight Bookstore at 7:30 pm. Details here—I’d love to see you!
ICYMI, May 30–June 2 I’ll be hosting an intimate, in-person writing retreat in the Hudson Valley. There will be stimulating activities, delicious food from a private chef and local farm-to-table eateries, one-on-ones with me, and tons of quiet time to write! Applications are due March 1; details here.
Drumroll please…I have good news for those of you who don’t want to wait until 2025 for more fiction from me! (That’s when my next novel will come out…if all goes according to plan.) I have a spine-chilling short story in Never Tell, a collection featuring new work from masters of the craft Caroline Kepnes, Rachel Howzell Hall, Liv Constantine, Loreth Anne White, and Ivy Pochoda.
My creepy little tale is called The Other Side of the Road, and it’s about a couple that gets more than they bargained for when they move from the city to their dream house upstate. The cover is below, and I love how it perfectly captures the vibe! You can preorder it here—it’s out March 19. Can’t wait to hear what you think!
A little announcement! When I first launched Get It Write (hell yeah this newsletter has a name now!!!), I made sure to have plenty of exclusives for paid subscribers. But now that we’re off and running with premium content, including the Words With (Author) Friends series, behind-the-scenes intel, word-for-word book treatments, and more (later this week I will literally show you some of my sales figures), I’ve made the Query Compendium open to all. I hope it’s a valuable resource for both querying writers and anyone thinking about how to pitch their own ideas!
Finally, I wanted to mark today, a very special anniversary: On February 26, 2019, my first novel, The Lost Night, hit shelves. That’s right, it’s been five years to the day since I became a published author!!!

Many readers only discovered my work after We Were Never Here came out, so I’ll let People Magazine tell you about my debut:
Ten year’s after her best friend’s death was ruled a suicide, Lindsay Bach is beginning to doubt that that’s what happened. The truth lies in the young women’s shared hipster past in Brooklyn circa 2009, when drinking, hookups, and relationship drama ruled. Bartz juggles multiple suspects—including Lindsay, who was blackout drunk that night—then caps her impressive debut with a nerve-racking finish.
If that piques your interest, you can learn more about the book here.
Thank you so much for your support! I’m no one without my readers, and I’m grateful for each and every one of you.
Your query compendium is insanely robust and useful. So many authors! I plan to mention it to friends and writing clients via my next author newsletter! Congrats also on your new short story!
